Greater Kansas City Chapter

Chapter History

The Greater Kansas City Alumnae Chapter was the first ZTA alumnae group in our area, originally organized on June 26, 1926 and chartered on February 7, 1927, when ZTA first issued alumnae chapter charters.

As the KC metropolitan area grew and more women joined the workforce, another group of ZTA alumnae, primarily younger career women, saw the need to form a chapter that met in the evenings. So, the Kansas City Metro Chapter was chartered in 1972. As the members of the Greater Kansas City Chapter aged, that group eventually became inactive.

In 2002, ZTA chartered the Lawrence, Kansas, Area Chapter for members in Johnson, Douglas and surrounding counties.

In fall 2014, members of the KC Metro and Lawrence chapters met to discuss a possible merger to strengthen our sisterhood and share our time and talents. In spring 2015, the members of the Lawrence Area and Metro Kansas City Chapters voted to merge and restore the original name of Greater Kansas City Alumnae Chapter.

Whether you consider our chapter less than 10 years old or nearly 100 years old, we hope you will find us energized, enthusiastic and eager to share ZTA alumnae life with you.
